I’ve always LOVED appetizers. First of all, appetizers are the perfect size. Small enough to leave you wanting more, large enough to fill you. Second, they’re usually a little more creative than the main dish – in presentation and flavors. In the same ways, opening bands tend to also be my favorite. A small set, early, brand new and LOVING being right where they are. A musical snack that usually leaves you wanting more. Last night, I went to see songwriting legend John Hiatt. But let’s be honest. I was WAY more excited to see my friend OPEN for John Haitt.
Native Run, y’all. Look them up.
Before the show started, I grabbed a squeeze from Rachel, who I met in high school through my best friend Diana. We went to go see her perform at a church coffee house. She belted out an Evanescence ballad and I wanted to be her best friend. Since then, I’ve only heard her sing 3 or 4 times, but in college it was always really fun to hear her new music ventures. Well, now we’re in the “real world.” Rachel has followed her dreams and moved to Nashville to pursue music as her full time career. And, unlike so many, they’re making it. Rachel is one half of Native Run [Shout out to Bryan, the other half]. They’re fun, clever, amazing song writers, and gonna explode any minute as the next country/pop duo. Last night was the first time I saw them live and as I sipped my coffee, I laughed out loud at their antics [and sometimes Lyrics] and really FELT their songs. They have a CD coming out in early 2014 and I’ll be that crazy girl buying 10 just so I can give them to my favorite music loving friends. Right now you can check out their website and listen to a snippet of their talent. ENJOY!!!
