Last year in December, my parents took Chad and I along with them to Hawaii. You all by now know my love for all things beach. Well, Hawaii is the ultimate. I just love the culture. One of the days we were there, Chad and I decided to drive the Road to Hana. It was beautiful and magical and torturous all at the same time. It is truly like going back in time. Jurassic Park feeling. But there is also the 3 hours of hairpin turns. And the sinus infection that was constantly aggravated by the mountainous terrain. I’m getting away from my point.
Along the way TO Hana, we made our stops. With the guidance of a CD, we found and explored waterfalls and caves and new beaches and hikes… but the way home was 3 hours of those hairpin turns. So we flipped off our CD of mile marker exhibits and found ourselves browsing stations on the radio. And then we found it.
Jawaiian Music.
In the most simple of terms, Hawaii’s take on Reggae. And the song that caught our ear? Guava Jelly. Listen closely. Yes, it DOES say, “Come rub up on my belly like guava jelly.” And so, Chad and I can’t stop singing this song to each other – and it’s been almost 10 months since we were there. When he turned 25 earlier this month, old enough to drive a rental car, I couldn’t help myself…
If you’d like to hear MORE Jawaiian, download the MauiRadio app and keep it on Island FM.
