Most people cringe and roll their eyes when they hear a Harley Davidson ride by. The drivers usually rev the engines and depending on the pipes, it makes some crazy noise that basically mutes anyone within 50 feet. I don’t cringe. I love that sound. It reminds me of Memorial day. You see, multiply that sound by 500,000. Yes. FIVE HUNDRED THOUSAND motorcycles. And that’s what it’s like to be at Rolling Thunder.
But Rolling Thunder is not just some rally. It’s not like Daytona Bike Week, with topless women and fights on every corner. It’s not a group of outlaws making noise. It’s people like me and my dad. Ok, and probably a lot of the guys at DBW. But we’re just getting on a bike and telling our nation that 1. we’re thankful 2. we’re aware 3. we remember. Rolling Thunder’s mission is specifically for the fallen during the Vietnam War. The Prisoners of War, and the Missing in Action. But it also serves to honor all of the fallen veterans. Memorial Day has come and gone. I didn’t go to Rolling Thunder this year, but I will again, either on foot or [hopefully], on the back of my dad’s bike…

Very well said. I went to Rolling Thunder for the first time this year. It was so moving… a huge group of peaceful people, more interested in keeping memories alive and showing support to our country then people throwing BBQs and partying. Great Post!
