We all have them. Our favorites. Favorite this or that. Store, memory, friend, product, and service. I’ve thought a little about mine over the past few days. You see, there is a balance we all walk and here it is: having an idea ….. ….. ….. taking action. And some people might think – no, that is a timeline. But let me explain what I mean.
I’m a doer. If I want something to happen, I do it. For example, in college, I LOVED music and all that went with it. I especially loved finding new bands and sharing them with the world. So, I happened upon a band called Starting Tuesday, loved their music, and decided then should come to JMU to play a show. So I emailed them, brought them, hoped our little coffee shop could muster up some money to pay them, and a show we had! I think back to that, and I have two reactions in my being.
I admire that girl. The one who does things out of passion and faith. The one who followed up with her connections and pushed though the introverted spirit telling her to just listen to the CD. But I also criticize that girl. With a little planning, and a little more connecting and pushing, something else could have happened. Something bigger. Something better. It’s a little hard on myself to look back on something I did in college and make judgements. But what about now. What about the future?
All of the things I love – stores, products, services, people – have something in common. They do things right. Like J.Crew shoes. They are just so pretty and very comfortable. And not to mention, expensive. But price aside, they do it right. They use the best materials, they plan, find the people to make it happen, and then we just see the products. I’m thinking about my business, and realizing that thought and planning and resources HAVE to play a role in making Alisandra Photography RIGHT. I can’t just come up with an idea and execute the next day. There is a process to producing something worth sharing with people.
Marriage Monday will be sporadic in the coming weeks. Not due to a lack of passion for the subject, but for the opportunity to really develop my words and posts. Because I am so passionate about marriage, I want to do it right.
Can you relate? Am I crazy? And what are some things in your life that really DO IT RIGHT?!

I totally relate to this! I find myself writing something down on my to do list meaning to do it … but it will sit there for months just being passed from an old list to the new list. Now, I’m really pushing myself to DO IT when I say I will … of course though, with thought and not jumping the gun. Haha! Like Katelyn James’ talk back at Pursuit 31, eat the big frog first! Take action on your to dos and conquer the scarier ones first to make for a more successful outcome … as well as your own satisfaction 🙂
I kind of have a split personality… one side of me has a LOT of ideas and not a lot of action, the other side fixates on an idea and has no patience to do it right, just wants to get it done! It is hard for me to meld those together to really put in the thought and work to do it right, like you said. Definitely good to think about. Thanks for the post 🙂
Loved this Ali! I think I’m starting to learn that you can’t do EVERYTHING well..You have to pick and choose and do the things that really matter to you well and just kind of let the rest go…I get frustrated when I dont do something as well as I could..but sometimes for some things you just have to do enough to get by and learn that thats okay sometimes too. (The perfectionist in me is cringing but I’m learning to let go of that!)..You are awesome.
