In March this year, the wedding industry knew the 2020 season would look different. We went from venues to backyards, hugs to masks, catering to home cooked meals, directing people closer together [“smush” is my typical instruction] to asking people if they wanted socially distanced family formals. But with all of these changes, one thing that hasn’t been impacted has been the love and excitement surrounding the day.
I drove up to Richmond Virginia for Kim and Ryan’s backyard COVID-19 wedding, mask ready. This couple was so sweet and had the most beautiful day getting married at Ryan’s parent’s impeccable garden-y yard. Renee Doorly did makeup, Kim’s friend built their arch, a family friend decorated it with beautiful peach and white flowers, her mom sewed masks, and a family member made their cake! It was a labor of love that came together perfectly.
A few moments to note: When Kim walked down the aisle, Ryan jumped out of his place and ran to her. Joyful and unexpected. The ceremony took place looking out at the very bench where the two got engaged! And then the sweetest bubble exit with a bubble machine – a COVID approved way to “blow” bubbles!

These are so gorgeous! You’d never know this wasn’t a normal wedding venue.
