Virginia Beach portrait and lifestyle photographer specializing in comfortable portraits and candids
I remember it vividly – sending my dad links to properties for sale in Charleston during my freshman year of college. My mom and I began vacationing there, and I fell in love with the sites, the food, the history, the architecture… Once I got married, mother-daughter trips were harder to come by, but I still managed to mini-moon there with Chad and vacation there with friends.
To my delight, my parents ended up purchasing property down just south of Charleston on Johns Island, and less than a year ago, they broke ground on their home. Their architect, Clarke Design Group, provided a beautiful design and their builder, Holy City Construction executed it flawlessly! It’s a 3 bed, 2.5 bath house that is basically… all you need. Single floor living for my parents, and two guest rooms and a loft up top.
A few of my favorite things:
The Floors.
I’m obsessed with the color and massive planks. And quite ready to rip out our old orange flooring after seeing these.
The Front Door.
From the beginning, no matter the color of the exterior, I advised a wood door… I’m so excited mom agreed and even chose a copper lantern for the front as well.
The Paint Color.
Yes, the interior, but also the exterior! This was the biggest source of stress for me because I have no idea how you choose a color of an exterior! You can’t change it later, and how are you to know if it will look good? Interior paint is relatively easy to change and there are so many inspiration photos online. But, exterior, you’re kind of on your own. Well, I applaud my mom for going bold with a dark gray called Pencil Point. It photographs and appears blue, yet there actually isn’t any blue in the paint make up. Either way, I think it turned out a stunner.
The Outdoor Shower.
Although it’s not pictured, just imagine it behind the house… and it is what it is… a shower head outside! My dad chose an industrial looking shower head that just is too cool.
