Every year on the day of the Kentucky Derby, I sadly miss the race because I’m typically photographing a wedding. Don’t get me wrong – I love my job and choose to miss the race. But I love horses, too, and always want to see their cuteness prancing around. This year, however, my spring has been lighter than usual and I was stoked to be “off” on Derby Day, but also get to photograph a Derby themed engagement party for a 2016 couple. Hartwood House made for the perfect backdrop for Chad and Brittany’s celebration.

This party is the perfect example of a Derby Day party. Some must haves include… Hats and bow ties. Cute southern inspired mini foods and a Mint Julep bar. Lawn games and a live broadcast of the race. Some bourbon for the couple to bury [so it doesn’t rain on their wedding day!]. I’d say this couple pulled their party off with success!
