A few weeks ago, I decided to watch the Golden Globes. I am in no way a film aficionado, but I do love seeing the dresses and hearing who is to thank for the success of all of the actors. What I didn’t expect was to hear a hauntingly true statement come out of an evening in Hollywood among the stars, most of whom have been married and divorced… some more than one time. I don’t know if many people picked up on it, but in rang in my ears for days.
If I have learned anything from writing a show about an affair,
it is how sacred and valuable and essential our marriages are.
~ Sarah Treem
Yes, Sarah. YES.
Marriages ARE sacred [set apart for the worship of God]
and valuable [of great worth]
and essential [a matter of the utmost importance].
But so often I let silly, everyday problems get in the way and blur my intentions. I let my pride influence my tone and facial expresses. I find myself wanting to be right, instead of wanting my relationship with Chad to be healthy and fruitful. Ugh. And then I get a lecture from the last place I ever expected – the creator of a show called, “The Affair.” How humbling. So here is to a year of valuing our marriages as sacred and essential, y’all! If it is ever a question, it IS worth it to fight for our marriages, even when we’re fighting ourselves!

Love this post! I feel guilty to admit that Scandal has become one of my favorite shows, especially since television has made affairs seem so glamorous when in reality they break families and marriage covenants. Thank you for posting this, Ali!
