Last Monday, I was officially discharged from my podiatrist. *CELEBRATE!!!*
Over two years ago, I began having pain on the ball of my foot. [Photo 1] You can read more about my diagnosis here, but long story short, I’m not sure what caused it. It could have been:
– Years of wearing heels.
– A new High Intensity Interval workout.
– Shoes with no support mixed with long periods of standing [Photo 2]. BTW, J.Crew Lemon flats, size 8.5… for sale!
Bottom line, I had sesamoiditis. A big word for: I broke a bone that allows my big to bend easily. So any productive movement of my foot hurt. I had to learn how to exercise differently [Photo 3]. With an official diagnosis and some cortisone shots [Photo 4], I actually had to change a LOT about how I did things. I bought new shoes [Photo 5] to go with my broken bone, I stopped being willing to do fun things, like rock jumping or long hikes, and I had to accept that if the shots didn’t work, I’d need surgery. So I asked for prayer toward the end of wedding season last year [Photo 6]. Prayer to get through with minimal pain and prayer for nerves about surgery.
Well, about 4 months ago, I had surgery on my foot [Photo 7]. I had several crazy moments between now and then…
– learning to walk on crutches for the first time.
– not being able to wash my foot for three weeks… ew.
– bathing for three weeks – picture how a cat raises it’s leg in the air…
– flying after surgery and having my foot swell up like a beach ball
– wearing crocs for three months straight [Photo 8].
And, as mentioned above, I FINALLY graduated back to regular shoes. No more icing, crocs, recumbent bike… I’m not quite 100% – there is still a little pain, swelling, numbness, and stiffness, but there is still healing. I’m so thrilled to be rid of sesamoiditis. I can’t wait to walk in the sand this year and play a little rough without having to say, “Watch my foot!”
Cheers to a great recovery and I’m so so excited about the places I will go and what lies ahead for my feet!

LOVE THIS SO MUCH!!!!!!!!! God is good 🙂 And so proud of you and encouraged by how you endured this as a wedding photog! You’re amazing!
I started 6 months ago. They finally diagnosed me with sesamoditis about 3 months ago and they started me with a boot now a bigger boot and crutches. I’m doing everything they are telling me to do but I am afraid surgery is on the horizon. Thank u for your pictures and encouraging words. I hope to have success such as yours!
