Virginia Beach portrait and lifestyle photographer specializing in comfortable portraits and candids
When I first started in this business, I needed an attitude adjustment. My insecurities and knowledge of other industries set me up to be closed off when it came to talking with other photographers about my business. I felt the need to push myself to be creative, book all of my weddings on my own, and keep all of my questions and worries hidden from other photographers. I then started realizing that networking is important. And to push it further into relationships. I heard Jasmine Star talk about how she and a few other photographers started a google calendar. Her group would get together and talk shop, refer weddings to one another, and promote each other’s businesses! This was totally backwards to me, yet it made sense!
A little over a year ago, I met with Annamarie, Katie, Jill, and Amanda before a dinner with a bunch of other photographers. The wheels started turning and by the end of the night, we had set up a shared google calendar that we named, “NSYNC.” Because there are 5 of us. I’m more of a Backstreet Boys girl, but I let that slide due to the fact that it’s less catchy and would be awkward to explain. Anyway, we’re all Virginia photographers who are willing to travel to all parts of the state and beyond. We all value client experience, the quality of our work, and all have a great work ethic. It came together spontaneously, since some of us had just met that night, and our styles range from Jill’s light and airy romantic style to Amanda’s fun and bright style. But I would gladly send any inquiry I receive where I’m booked to any of these girls because of my respect for them. We don’t get together too often, in fact, we’ve only gotten together one time since setting up the calendar. But, we also set up a private facebook group called, you guessed it, NSYNC. And there we are able to talk about things that range from personal issues to professional successes. I’m so proud of these girls and want to badly to tell the world how great they are.
Thanks, you 4, for being willing to chime in on silly questions, be vulnerable, and your presence in the industry. If you don’t know them already, please take some time to read their blog and get to know them!

If you are reading this and this is something you really would love to have in your life, you should grab a few other photographers and start one! We keep it small, but your group could be larger or smaller! There is no right or wrong way to do this! Again, we had no strategy when starting NSYNC, we just saw a need and made it happen!
Four of the 5 of us out to lunch. You’d think we’d have decided which iPhone to look at – did I mention we’re photographers?! *Amanda not pictured – we missed you!
