Mom used to come home from visiting her sister in North Carolina carrying a white paper bag. It meant nothing to me then. Like sweet tea. I didn’t like sweet tea until well into high school. And look at it now – God’s nectar. Anyway, this white paper bag was filled with none other than North Carolina BBQ. I was still a fan of the red stuff. Not the hot pepper and vinegar based stuff that came without sauce! But now, I love it.
Deja vu a few days ago, y’all. Mom came up to Richmond from visiting her sister and knocked on our door holding a white paper bag. Long story short, she LEFT IT AT OUR HOUSE on accident. She had brought it home for my dad, but… well, now we have it. So I froze a few pints and kept one out. If you’re wondering what the big deal is, I’m not sure I can tell you! Maybe the fact that there is more emphasis on the pork rather than the sauce? Or that it has a peppery kick to it? Or that vinegar base…. whatever it is, if you want to try it, just drive south of the boarder to your nearest BBQ Hut.
