If this post a little off at times, it’s because I’m writing while watching Cross Country. This is where they take horses and jump them through ponds and over trucks at 20 mph. Needless to say, I’m a little distracted 🙂
I was thinking about something I’ve been super thankful for recently. It’s something that I imagine a lot of girls might be turned off by. Have you ever been given a gift that was, well, questionable? Like, a husband buying his wife a tent for camping. Or pulling a Father of the Bride and buying your fiance a blender for her wedding present. “What is this, 1958? Give the little wife a blender?”
For my birthday this year, Chad was excited, but hesitant to give me my present. It was an, “I think you’ll like it,” type gift. But, I LOVED it. I was SO excited. It was a check to join a gym for 6 months. YES!! I was stoked. I love spin classes and need accountability when I’m working out, so a gym membership was perfect. The only drawback is that I felt guilty. I have a fabulous gym in our apartment complex. So I asked Chad if I could use the money for a personal trainer instead. So, every Thursday, I meet with a trainer. He holds me accountable to 300 calorie meals and working out EVERYday except wedding days. I’ve left behind excuses like, “I don’t have time,” because I now MAKE time. I’m learning how to manage my life, instead of having my life manage me. I’m pushing around priorities, and it’s hard, but so worth it.
Have you ever been given a gift from your spouse or significant other that you LOVED? Or a gift that had a question mark hanging over it?

My husband gave me a donut maker as his wedding gift to me…HAHA. We also give each other gifts “from the cat” and the cat has given me so many random things including Johnny Depp movies, a unicorn pillow pet, a Jillian Michaels DVD and fitness ball, and most recently a bag of candy and a panera gift card. We are weird!
go chad! what an awesome gift. re: priorities…i can’t remember where i heard it but… someone said that we all have the exact same amount of time. so, when we say things like, “i don’t have time for that.” we should really be saying, “that’s not a priority right now.” this has CHANGED the way i prioritize and schedule my life. being aware of priorities is much more effective than being aware of time.
I’ve noticed that Daniel likes to buy me shoes, which is nice. My first birthday that we were together he bought me Chaco’s so that I could be more outdoorsy with him and one Christmas he gave me tennis shoes and an alarm clock. Not sure how I felt about it, but needless to say I use them both almost everyday!
My boyfriend gave me gum for my birthday this year, that would seem questionable, BUT it’s my fav gum and I always have it. Since we had just started dating it was a perfect cute gift.
Luan and I gave ourselves a blender – a wedding gift to ourselves right after marriage! he he.
i love your posts! and i totally hear you about accountability and working out. only way i get to the gym is having some accountability!!
