There are only a few places that I go that I feel the need to stay a long time. I’m a quick decision maker, but when it comes to the farmer’s market, no matter what is in my reusable grocery bag, I still can walk in circles. I’ve never left without feeling like I was being rushed, or that I hadn’t gotten my fill. I think it’s the people. The bright colors. The smells of melons and flowers and kettle corn. The feeling of love from the sellers – after all, these are their products that they grew! It is very different than to produce section at the grocery store.
Anyway, this past weekend I was home. Woodbridge doesn’t have the best farmer’s market I’ve ever been to, but it has definitely grown from a 5 truck show. My mom and I spoke with a man who was buying flowers for the butterflies. Then he launched in to a story about squirrel hunting and how he had seen a squirrel and a rabbit playing together. We spoke to a man who made bread. 1000 loaves of rosemary focaccia per week. I bought 4 of them. I found out that a boy in my french class in high school now works with his family making pastries for the market – amazing!
Anyway, am I alone here? Why do you love the farmer’s market?
