One thing I love about being a wedding photographer is that I get to sit through so many ceremonies. Well, not sit, but you know what I mean. I love hearing the message at each wedding because usually they are so personalized, and yet can be applied to any marriage. Luke and Hannah got married this past weekend. And I loved their ceremony! One huge thing I pulled from it while snapping away, is something that Luke’s dad said as he was speaking to them. While talking about the importance of communication, his instructions were to take a few minutes out of everyday and talk about 5 highs and lows of our day.
I love this idea! When Chad gets home from work, he usually tells me about his day. But I know that there are some days when we don’t get a chance to catch up. Suddenly, it’s the middle of the week and Chad’s talking on the phone with someone about something that happened, and I have no idea what it is! As his wife, the last thing I want to feel is that I don’t know my own husband. Purposefully setting aside a few moments for US to connect and get on the same page with each other is crucial. Further into his talk, Luke’s dad mentioned that some of those lows might be about one another. Ouch. But as much as it might hurt, those 5 minutes might prevent a fight down the road.
It is so important to be proactive in your marriage. Especially when it comes to staying connected with your spouse. This 5 Things tip was so practical and really easy to implement in ANYones marriage.
PS. Isn’t Hanna STUNNING in her off the shoulder gown? More to come later this week from these two!
